"Joe Does It Again; Marc Breaks The Drought"![]()
|
2006 set the standard for close seasons with three owners tying for the best record at the end of the year. But Joe Shindelus, by virtue of having the highest overall point total, became the first owner in league history to win two records titles. Joe was propelled by the legendary season of LaDanian Tomlinson, who set records in both the NFL and fantasy scoring systems. He also got impressive production from Ladell Betts, an afterthought on draft day, and Torry Holt on his way to ultimate glory. Early in the season Mike Weistling looked like a lock to win the title, starting off the season with seven straight wins and opening an early two-game lead. But an injury to Donovan McNabb coupled with the emergence of Tomlinson and Betts soon shifted the tide in favor of Joe. He grabbed the lead in Week 14 and never looked back. In the points race, Marc was nearly the first wire-to-wire winner as he rushed out to an early lead and held on to win the championship. Marc scored a new league record 211 points in Week 4 and immediately seized the points lead. Joe Shindelus challenged him late in the year for that lead but Marc never releinquished it. Steven Jackson's monster year in addition to solid seasons by Chad Johnson and Marc Bulger and Marc's usual shrewdness on the waiver wire (picking up such big performers as Marques Colston and Bernard Berrian) helped earn Marc his first career championship. Aside from Marc's incredible 211 point performance and an exciting finish to the season, highlights included an impressive second half performance by Dan Todd, who won six out of his final eight games to finish in fourth place. Despite not winning the title, Eddie Gulbenkian repeated his solid 2005 performance and was the third of the three owners to finish 12-5. Both he and Paul Shindelus won three $20 weekly prizes a piece, a nice consolation. Overall point scoring was up from 2005, and the league's knowledgeable and dedicated owners helped it continue to flourish. |
