"Finally, It's Dan's Turn"![]()
|
For years Dan Todd and Marc Takenaga shared the moniker of the "Susan Lucci" or the "Buffalo Bills" of the league (i.e. best to have never won a title). Following the 2008 season, the moniker is now Marc's alone. Dan took home both titles in impressive fashion, drafting a team loaded with players who (in some cases unexpectedly) developed into fantasy studs. His first pick was LaDanian Tomlinson, considered the #1 fantasy player in the game at the time. But it would be later picks like DeAngelo Williams, Thomas Jones, Calvin Johnson, and Anquan Boldin that steered him to victory. He was also savvy enough to pluck Kurt Warner off the waiver wire following the draft and to select Antonio Bryant in the 18th round, and both went on to stellar seasons. Dan spent much of the year being closely followed by Joe Shindelus, Marc Takenaga, and Nick Stolpman in the records race and had to wait until the last week to cliched the title, but he never made a race of the points title, winning by a whopping 216-point margin and setting a league record for highest point total (2186.5). The league welcomed Mike Splaine into the fold in 2008, but it was a tough season for the newcomer. His team was loaded with Cleveland Brown skill players, who had disappointing seasons across the board. 2008 also saw three league records broken, two of them by Dan. Already mentioned was his obliteration of the previous record for most points scored in a season, but in winning $330, Dan also bested Paul Shindelus' record of $310 for most money won in a season. In a more dubious honor, poor Kevin Clark set the record for most points scored in a losing effort when he put up 140.5 in Week 4, only to lose to Nick's 143 points. But 2008 will best be remembered as Dan Todd's long awaited and much deserved time to shine. |
